Terra Organics Reviewed on Yelp!
Nov 12th
We just became aware that we made a big Yelper’s top of Seattle list titled “Yes! Yes! Yes!” The list of Yelp! reviews features some other highly rated Seattle offerings. Here’s what Rebecca “mmmMMM” had to say about us in her 5-star review:
Terra Organics is awesome.
I had a deal for two weeks of produce for the price of one week, so I tried them out and wow! Their site is very user-friendly and there are a few different options of boxes you can order – local, fruit, veggie, mixed, small or large. My favorite part was being able to 86 produce that you never want to receive, and you can add certain items each week for not too much more.
I ordered the small box of fruits and vegetables, and it was delivered right to my apartment door while I was at work. The produce was fresh and beautiful and the best part was that it wasn’t all ripe at the same time, so I actually had time to enjoy it all. In the box, there are recipe ideas for the more obscure items, storage tips and also information on how far your food traveled to get to you.
I definitely plan on ordering more from Terra. It’s organic, fresh and local – like having the farmer’s market at your door!
Thanks for your kind words, Rebecca!
Terra Organics Events!

Yesterday, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack penned a blog post for the USDA’s new website, “Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food.” In it, he says, “Local and regional food systems are an important vehicle for many consumers to actually get to know a farmer. Everyone depends on a national network of farmers and ranchers, but I want to make sure we all get to actually know one. I believe it is important that those of us living off the farm better understand the struggles and sacrifices farmers, ranchers, and their families make to feed our nation. It’s not about one particular type of agriculture, it’s about all of agriculture and making sure that folks appreciate and understand that connection.”
It wasn’t that long ago that Kim and I did everything for Terra Organics ourselves – all of the growing, harvesting, packing, delivering, etc. But now it’s turned into a bigger operation, one that we feel can have a bigger impact on promoting local and organic agriculture, and one that also now relies on many wonderful, creative, hard-working and dedicated individuals.
We’d like to invite you to come spend some time with us – get to know your farmers and those that make the farm and distribution business work – at two upcoming events at Tahoma Farms:
- The first is a monthly event, geared towards the little people. July’s Kids Day at the Farm includes a Children’s Garden, a strawberry patch to graze through, a picnic party and baby pool!! Thursday, July 22nd, 10am – 11am. 21108 Orville Rd E, Orting, 98360;
- Terra Organics Member Appreciation Day – Sunday, August 22nd. We will be hosting farm tours during the day and are making plans for a potluck/BBQ in the evening. More details in the coming weeks but put it on your calendar now!!
We hope to get the chance to meet you, the one who makes it all possible, at one of our upcoming events.
Terra in Perspective/Extended Referral Dates

Based upon some comments we received from our recent customer survey, we know that you may have an interest in knowing where Terra Organics fits into the local organic farming and food scene. So, a couple of high points:
- In 2008, Pierce County had a total of just eight certified organic farms, totaling 885 acres. Just two farms, both dairy farms, represent more than 2/3 of this total. With the purchase last year of 40 acres in Orting, our farm, Tahoma Farms, is the largest organic farm, excluding dairies, in Pierce County.
- In 2006, 19 cents of every dollar spent in the US on food went to the farmer; the rest went to the processor, the wholesaler, the trucker, the retailer. We return at least 50 cents of every dollar you spend to the farms we purchase from directly. And in the summer months, 90% of our produce is purchased directly from the farmer.
- There are more and more CSA and “produce box” programs springing up every year. Terra Organics is, in our estimation, the fourth largest in the state.
We strive to grow our business for the sake of having a larger impact on the health of our local economy, farmland preservation, the future of farming, the environment – in short, the viability of small-scale, organic agriculture.
To this end, we value your efforts to spread the word about Terra Organics.
We have been adding new customers at a breakneck pace over the last two months, with an average of more than three new sign-ups per day! This means that we now need to devote more of our land to production this year and buy more produce from area farmers. Great things if, like us, you think that local farms and local food is important!
So, thank you.
The referral program where you get $5 off your next delivery in addition to the $5 off your friend/neighbor/family member receives when she signs up is going on for another 10 days.
