Tahoma Farms CSA – Extended Season
Oct 21st
The Tahoma Farms CSA season was originally set to run for 21 weeks, with this week being the last of the season. But, as it turns out, there’s still so many varieties of vegetables – Brussels sprouts, sunchokes (Jerusalem artichokes), purple top turnips, rutabaga - that haven’t yet been included in the CSA boxes, that we’re going to extend the season at least five weeks. Because we know that some of you subscribed to the CSA box will not continue on past this week, we can also make the CSA box available for those that wanted to sign-up for it in the first place but couldn’t because it was sold out for the season.
There are a few year-round CSA’s – as defined by those farms that rely exclusively on what they grow to fill the boxes – and some version of that is what we are striving for with our CSA program. We know that as interest grows for local food – and, also, as external circumstances dictate that more of our food needs to be produced and consumed locally (on a global scale) – that it is increasingly important for producers to be able to find a way to have food available to consumers year-round.
To this end, we applied for and received grant funding through the Natural Resources Conservation Service to install a 2500 square foot greenhouse at Tahoma Farms. If you are in the neighborhood, you will see our season-extension tool going up in the next couple of weeks.
So, we thank all of you for supporting Terra Organics and Tahoma Farms. Know that with your support, our contribution to the revitalization of our local food economy is growing and we are able to grow more organic food, preserve more organic farmland, and provide more food through all four seasons.
Please contact Rebecca at rcrumbacher@terra-organics.com if you’d like to continue with the CSA box, switch to the CSA box, or if you have any other order or service related questions, comments, or concerns.
Sincerely,
Dan
Farewell Sean/ Harvest Fest Recap
Oct 8th
We want to extend a heartfelt thanks to Sean Fisher, driver extraordinaire for Terra Organics for the last 3 years, for all of his hard work and commitment to Terra Organics. Sean will be moving to Wisconsin in the next couple of weeks to start a CSA program with his daughter, his partner and her extended family. We know he has many fans out there, and I’m sure those that know him will join with us in wishing him the best in his new pursuits. Good luck, Sean!
We had a great turnout at Tahoma Farms last Saturday for 2010′s Harvest Fest. Thank you to all – staff, volunteers and especially our members – for coming out and giving us the opportunity to let you experience the farm for a day. It was great fun!
This is one of my favorite photos from the day. It was the last hayride, and Agustin finally got to put his feet up and join Gabriella on the wagon, with Lyla and Clementine hamming it up for the camera. Thanks again, friends and family.
Sincerely,
Dan
