A New Year, A New Terra Organics

If you were on vacation for the last week or two, welcome home!  We are excited by the progress on our end of getting everything moved over to the new system.  And generally the feedback has been positive.  If you haven’t logged into your account yet, or if you didn’t read through the message last week, please read on.

New Account Management Page

To access your account, click here to be redirected to the new sign-in page.  When asked for your username and password, enter your email address in the username field, and “farmfresh” in the password field.  You will then be prompted to establish a new password.  (if the system does not recognize your email, please send us a message.)

Once logged in, you will notice that things look a little different.  You’ll see several options on a menu bar at the top of the page:

  • “History” – This will show your order history.  Since we are on a new system this may not show any order history yet.  However, any balance you had on your account previously will have been transferred into the new system
  • “Contact Info” – Here you can edit your contact info and delivery address if needed
  • “Vacation” – If you are going on vacation, list the dates you will be gone, and the system will automatically generate an order for you once you return
  • “Make a Payment” – Here you will need to select a payment option and enter billing information.  THIS MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE YOUR NEXT ORDER

You’ll also notice a box to the right of these options labeled “Summary.” This will list your next delivery date, delivery day, and box type.  You will have to enter the web store to view your itemized order.

Updates to Customer Policies

Please note a few changes to our billing options and policies:

  • We now offer the option to pay with an electronic check, which means your payment will be electronically debited from your bank account.  If you have been paying with a check up until now, this will eliminate the need to remember to leave a check out each time for our driver to pick up!
  • We are discontinuing the $1 credit card payment convenience charge
  • We will no longer be managing substitutions based on your list of “deleted items” or email requests.  We feel that nobody knows what you want better than you do, and the new system allows you to easily remove any item(s) from the standard box contents that you don’t want and replace them with an item, or items, you do want.  You can also freely add items from the web store, including produce items that are not a part of your standard box as well as eggs with more options to be added over time.
  • To make adjustments to your order, follow the link to the web store in the upper right hand corner of your account page.  If you are satisfied with the contents of your order as they are listed below, then you don’t need to do anything!
  • When you enter the web store to make any adjustments to your order, you will notice there is a $5 delivery fee.  This fee has always been built into the cost of your box, but with the new system we must display this charge so that it gets calculated into the total cost of your order.  This also helps lower the price on all items available to include in your order
  • Due to the new customization process, any add-ons that have been part of your standing order in the past have not been transferred into the new system.  You will now need to login and add these items to your order each time you want them.  For certain items (like eggs and juicing carrots), you do have the option to add them to your standing order. These items are listed as “options” not as subscriptions.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we complete this transition.  We welcome any feedback on the new system, and, as always, are happy to respond to any questions or concerns you may have.

Sincerely,

The Terra Organics Team

Oh, we were so close. (Payment System Update)

The data migration was smooth and the web store was being populated with all of our standard add-ons and more for the holidays.  We had the transition letter drafted, and inserted into this space with the email scheduled to go out at 3pm.  And then, at the moment of the last configuration piece, a hiccup!

So, we will be back next week with the debut of the new system.  In the meantime:

  • Access to your account has been disabled, so if there are changes you need to make to an order, you will need to email us instead.  The best email address is orders@terra-organics.com.
  • We have setup a form that can be used to submit add-on orders for your holiday meals.  Please click here to order. Please note: all add-on orders must be received by 10am Monday morning, regardless of your delivery day.

Sincerely,

Dan

Important Update: New Order System on the Way

Before we can pack our bags for Australia in March, there are some critical updates we are making at Terra Organics beginning today.  We have begun the long-awaited transfer of member data into a new platform that will create a much better user-experience, as well as offer increased customization of orders and, in the near future, give us the ability to expand our selection of fruits, vegetables and other farm-fresh products.

We will use the next ten days to transfer all data into the new system.  During this time, access to your account will be restricted, so if there are changes you need to make to an order or anything else that you would normally login to your account to complete, you will need to email us instead.  The best email address is orders@terra-organics.com.

There will be new payment options including ACH (bank-to-bank transfers) and, in the New Year, a pre-payment enrollment period with discounts for larger payments.  (These early pledges, or pre-payments on future deliveries, are what allow the farm to make it through the winter, buy seeds and equipment for the 2011 growing season, and, at the same time, offer a great discount to those that can commit to our services in advance.)  For security reasons, we will not be transferring any credit card information from the old system to the new.   This will present a challenge over the next few weeks as we work to update billing information for all of our members.  We will send out instructions for how to update your billing preferences as soon as the information is available to us.

This transition represents two years of waiting – including one failed attempt at a new system last year – and a chance for us to partner with a team of software developers and farm advocates that have developed a product specific to our industry.  We know that there will be some speed bumps along the way, but we hope for a mostly smooth transition and we thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.  We will come out on the other end able to offer a better user-experience, better customer service, and an overall better product.
Sincerely,

Dan

A Balanced Food Modernization Act Passes

The big news this week comes from our nation’s capital, where the Senate voted 73 to 25 in favor of Senate Bill S510, the first comprehensive food safety reform in this country in nearly 30 years.  While the final language of the Food Modernization Act is still subject to the reconciliation process, it is expected that a bill will be on the president’s desk for his signature before the end of the year.

In the end, the Senate did a good job of balancing the need for increased regulation while preserving the viability of small farms and consumer choice.  At odds was the issue of size: Is a one-size-fits-all approach sensible when it comes to regulation?  Are larger farms somehow more responsible or susceptible to incidences of food contamination and the spread of foodborne illnesses?

The truth remains that there exists a risk no matter where you get your food. Through more effective regulation of large farms (those responsible for sickening hundreds or thousands at a time) and the preservation of consumer choice at local markets, the Senate has done a good job of balancing the need for greater food safety assurances and the competing interests of big ag and small farms.

Sincerely,
Dan

‘Tis the Season

I hope that your Thanksgiving was full of good food, good friends and family and plenty to be thankful for.

The snow and freezing temperatures from earlier in the week brought with it an abrupt end to the amazing fall growing season at Tahoma Farms.  We are now into winter, which means lots of root crops and the arrival of seed catalogs to begin planning for next year.  It’s quite a shock to go from 20 vegetables that are ready for harvest – including radishes, arugula, and chard – down to about 10 in an instant.  What you see on the CSA list for this next week is representative of what will be available for the PNW box throughout the winter.  We’re only now able to assess how these crops survived the three days of snow and ice.  With any luck, we should be able to offer kale or collards or brussels sprouts throughout the winter.

Because of all this, this week marks the end of the CSA season for Tahoma Farms – more than a month longer than we had originally planned for the season, for a total of 27 weeks.  If you’d like to continue with another box please contact us via email or phone.   Thanks to all of the CSA members for a wonderful season!

We are so thankful for your ongoing support of Terra Organics.

Sincerely,

Dan
